Student Leader Report - By Maddi
Student Leader – Maddi Manning
Quite a bit has happened in the last few weeks leading up to the end of Term 3...
A couple weeks ago, on the 4th of September, we had our whole school swimming carnival at Oatlands. Well done to everyone who participated and an extra congratulations to those who made it into the inter-school events.
Our Prep - Gr 3/4 class went to see a performance at the Theatre Royal. It was a puppetry show from Adelaide. The performance was a retelling of 5 ‘Grug’ books into one story. This was part of their drama education. The students had an absolute blast!
On Wednesday the 12th of September we had some Richmond students visit the school for a transition ‘taster’ day for next year. They did a tour and participated in an activity with our year 6 students. Next term we will host Orientation Day for all our Gr 7 students for 2025.
On Monday the 16th of September, the Grade 9 class and select grade 10 students, participated in the Beacon Foundation "Polish" program. Polish is a powerful and practical program that helps students feel more confident about their transition into the world of work. They learn about the importance of transferable workplace skills, meet with mentors from different industries and participate in mock interviews. Most students were well behaved, participated and made the school proud.
Our year 11/12 students are currently doing their work placements in industry areas of interest to them.
Footy colors day was on Wed 18th. It was a gold coin donation to wear your sports clothes, and donations went to the ‘Fight Cancer Foundation’. Activities were held for primary students in period 3 and 4 and for secondary students in period 5 and 6. It was a lot of fun!
Grade 7/8 students took part in a fun and informative presentation by Hollie Kempton from OzHarvest on 19th September. The session covered some really important topics like:
- The issue of food waste and food insecurity, both globally and here in Australia
- How food waste affects the environment
- The impact food insecurity has on people's lives
- The inspiring story behind OzHarvest
- Simple tips on how we can all reduce food waste at home and at school
There was also a Q&A at the end where students got to ask their own questions!
In the last week of this term our Grade 12 are going to Tas Tafe to check out the Certificate 1 in Transition Education program which might be an option for them once they finish school.
Monday 23th September | Gr 7 Excursion and Gr 11/12 Excursion Tas Tafe |
Friday 27th September | End of Term 3 |
Monday 14th October | Term 4 Starts |
