Gr7 Excursion

The Lea

In week 5 on Monday, we went to The Lea Scout Centre. When we got there, we walked to the archery field and learnt the rules about archery. It only took about five minutes before we could pick up the bows and arrow. Then after we got straight into shooting with a bow and arrow.

After archery, we played 3-way tug of war and we had to work together to get the discs. Then we went down to the trees. We had a choice of a hard, medium, or an easy challenge. In the, hard one, you couldn't ask any questions if you did you were taken out of the challenge, but they answered the questions asked. We then got our challenge, which was getting the bucket of water without touching the floor. Isla had to climb up a rope to get the bucket of water, it took her two tries to get it but with everyone’s help, she safely got back over the line.

After that we went down to the camping area and ran around on the logs playing tag where everyone was it, but if you got tagged or fell off the logs you were out of the game. We finished the couple of rounds that everyone played and then we walked back up to the buses to get our lunch. After everyone eventually ate their lunch, we all walked into a different area and the instructors showed us a challenge everyone had to do. It was a log swinging, everyone had to balance on the log but if anyone touched the ground, we had to restart. We ended up doing it right at the end of the 15-minute mark and then everybody fell, it was funny.

Afterwards we split into two groups One group went to the tires hanging off a tree with a rope. We had to swap two tires across without falling. The other group went to balance on a wire rope without falling they had a rope hanging so they could hold on.

Next, we went to 2 platforms where you would swing like Tarzan from one platform to another. Our goal was to get a small bucket of water with the handle down. Every time you had a good idea one instructor will put the handle up, finally one of the girls got it. After that we put the other platform further away and we were seeing who could swing the furthest landing on the platform, it would move every time. One of the girls landed on it.

The last obstacle was climbing across a wire with only help from our classmates, everyone fell at least once.

And that was the grade 7 trip to The Lea. It was fun and interesting. Everyone enjoyed it and everyone was participating and having fun.
